| Sola Aero Club is looking for a financial lead or two |
The election committee is looking for members with an initiative who can take over for the current finance lead after the annual meeting. The finance lead has taken care of the club finances the past three years, and adapted it to the new regulations from NIF (Norwegian Confederation of Sports) that took effect on January 1st 2008. 1 jan. 2008. Regnskapsfører er engasjert fra 2008.
Conscientious members will be administering an established system that only requires management.

| All aircraft fully operational again - fly fly away! |
As of January 28th, all aircraft are back up and running. LN-NFJ is a new friend, hired in as a temporary replacement for the sale of LN-AED. It's a 1976 model C-172, but looks younger due to a fresh paint job in the C-172SP colour scheme and pattern (plastic surgery). The aircraft is in MelWin Booking and KDS already, so fly, fly away!

| CAA inspection at SFK - school permit extended |
Tuesday, January 20th, the CAA, represented by Jan-Kristian Heiberg, visited the club in order to review our school department. The club had been notified of the inspection ahead of time, in connection with the renewal of our school permit. The head of the school Leif Olsen and Club Chairman Eirik Walle met with the CAA inspector.

| LN-AED has been sold, replacement on the way |
As part of the decision to obtain new aircraft for the club, LN-AED has been sold. It's been sold to a group of three here at Sola. The aircraft is therefore no longer available to book for club members. To replace her, we're hiring in a C-172 LN-NFJ from Flyteknisk AS at Notodden. The aircraft is ready, and will be flown across in a few days along with LN-NFW, which has been over for service and a refreshed paint job.

| Fuel key left behind at fuel hose on P13 |
After fuelling the morning of January 14th, we've concluded that our metal fuel key number 0815 from Statoil was left behind on top of the 100LL hose cabinet on P13.
As this was a nice day with heavy traffic, the next person to fuel might have seen the key and taken it with him-/herself.
If anyone's found it, please contact me, in HelikopterDrift.

| Fyresdal (ENFY) reopened |

As you may know, the Airparc in Fyresdal closed last year. Since then, use of the airfield in Fyresdal (ENFY) has been a little unclear. Fyresdal Aero Club has now been founded, and has entered into an agreement with the municipality with regards to running the airfield. It is therefore a pleasure to announce that Fyresdal has been plowed, and is ready for visitors. 800 meters of asphalt (new last year).

| Oil type change – club aircraft |
The club’s technical lead has purchased Aeroshell Multigrade W 15W-50 in barrels to be used on the club aircraft as of today (January 2009). AED will be the first aircraft using the new oil after its 50 hrs service is completed, hopefully this weekend. The others will follow in turn. When topping up FAW and JAL until they’ve been in for inspection, use the W80 (+) that may be found in the 1 qt bottles.
NFW will also be using 15W-50. The reason for this is that the maintenance workshops we use recommend and uses nearly always this type of oil as it is much better. Remember that oil used from the barrel is to logged in the list provided! During January, a small logbook will be added to each aircraft to log fuel as well.

| New fees for schooling |
The CAA has changed its routines and fees. You no longer have to prepay the fee for skill tests and exams, an invoice will be sent after registration for skill test/exam.
Fee for the theoretical exam: NOK 1960,- Fee for a single subject: NOK 780,- Fee for skill test: NOK 2520,- Fee for class rating: NOK 2270,-

| Don’t over-prime at start-up |
During the first start-up of LN-FAW on Thursday, December 11th 2008, people outside the aircraft discovered flames coming out from the underside of the engine. They were able to alert the people inside the aircraft who shut off the fuel and electricity and evacuated. After evacuation there was no sign of flames or smoke. One of the witnesses immediately called the fire department, who were onsite in less than 3 minutes.
The fire department examined the aircraft with a heat detector, and then visually, without finding any heat generation.
The aircraft was then thoroughly examined and tested before being approved for flight again.
The club’s technical lead warns against over-priming at start-up. Even though it says 2-6 pumps in the checklist, a maximum of 3 times is recommended on normal west coast winter days. It has to be extremely cold before 6 pumps worth of priming are necessary.

| Busy pre-Christmas times in Sola Aero Club |
A few nice days in December lead to a lot of activity in Sola Aero Club. LN-FAW was picked up at Notodden and all three school aircraft are now operational.
Wednesday December 10th the weather was especially nice, it was going to be an exceptionally busy day with 2 first solo’s and a skill test. It all started with the tower informing Arne Sivertsen and Leif that the traffic was too high they had to go to Haugesund to do touch and go’s. (Or was it Leif Olsen who’d sorted out some extra challenges for Arne?). Arne was able to handle both flying into strong sunshine and an unfamiliar airport. He was checked out solo, and flew three solo flights before returning to Sola.
At Sola Øyvind Digranes was nervously awaiting his solo check with Leif. Øyvind has dreamt of flying for many years, the solo check went well, and instructor Atle Brokjøp could congratulate his first solo student with three beautiful landings.
Later on the same day it was Erik Andreas Øglænd’s turn. Erik Andreas is, despite his young age (born in 1991), already an able pilot and there was a lot of praise from examiner Olav Vik. Skill test passed!
Thursday it was Henrik Jesman Sunde’s (born 1989) turn to try his skills as a PPL-A pilot. Henrik started flying at a time in the club where it was hard to get a bit of flow in the instruction. This fall it’s been easier, and Henrik was well prepared for both theoretical and practical flying. Examiner Olav Vik said after Henrik had landed that these young boys fly very well despite their young age. Not a bad recommendation and Henrik gets a well-deserved congratulation from instructor Aleksander Ekeland.

| The Airside gate is operational again |
The airside gate at P5 is working again. According to Avinor, 80% of the ID-cards should now function. If your card doesn't work, you have to contact the ID-card office during normal working hours to have the card reactivated.
If you're going flying this weekend and your card is INOP, you can still cal the airport watch to let you in. We'd like to remind all users that THE GATE SHOULD ALWAYS BE LOCKED WHEN NOT IN USE. NEVER, EVER LEAVE THE GATE OPEN, regardless how tempting this could be for convenience issues.
This is a matter of trust between the GA-community at P13 and Avinor.

| Use of Sørstokken outside opening hours |
The club has entered into an agreement with Stord Airport regarding the use of Sørstokken outside normal opening hours. For details, please refer to this agreement (Norwegian only, sorry). The agreement only applies to LN-AED, LN-FAW and LN-JAL.
